Meet the new Committee

24/7/2018

On Sunday 22nd July, we held our society AGM, which consisted of heartfelt speeches, spreadsheets, elections, and a long-held tradition of piano karaoke. While we don't have any of that top-secret karaoke footage to share, we are delighted to introduce our new committee members!
Kirsty Moir
Chairperson

Kirsty loves Footlights, this is her community her family. Kirsty wants us to be a positive influence in the Wellington Community and she wants us to grow and nurture our performers on and off stage.

When Kirsty heard Footlights sing in The Rising Sun show after she had been away for 2 years, she was blown away and felt so proud of what our society had achieved!

Kirsty studied in Japan for a year on an exchange.

Mike Bryant
Members' Representative

Mike is an award-winning homosexual, having won Mr. Gay Wellington 2017. He also came second in Mr. Gay New Zealand 2018. Mike likes to remind people of this obnoxiously often.

Mike's favourite Footlights show was A New Brain because it's always been his favourite musical and he's a curmudgeonly old man who is set in his ways.
Mike wanted to join the Footlights committee because he adores how Footlights has been involved in the community and really wants to focus on things like our charity concerts and giving back to the community whenever possible. Also to pick up dudes.

Stacey O'Brien
Secretary

Stacey wanted to join the committee (again) because she wants to give more back to a community that she loves, and that has given her a sense of family and belonging. She hopes to be of help in continuing to shape the future of the Footlights. Also, Stacey really loves emails and spreadsheets. Spreadsheets are sexy.

Stacey's favourite show, so far, has been "Rent". The show had some dark themes and issues to address, which made rehearsals very difficult at times, but through this the cast came together and created such a supportive, fun, and unbelievably kind atmosphere. "Pippin" and "Taking the Minnelli" gave her a taste, but ultimately "Rent" was the show that solidified Stacey's Footlights addiction.

An interesting fact about Stacey is that she is much better at Crash Bandicoot than Mike Bryant. And most other games for that matter.
Patrick Barnes
Members' Representative

Patrick's favourite moment with Footlights was getting to mix sound for Chess for every show, both due to the massive challenge it presented but also the payoff of such a huge project coming together so well.

Patrick wanted to join the committee as a way to give back to the Society after the professional development opportunities it's provided him in the two years since he joined.

Patrick once sewed together a 120m² version of the Laser Kiwi flag for a football game. It was as silly as it sounds.

 Eugene Wolfin
Members' Representative

Working on Chess with the Footlights family has been the highlight of Eugene’s Footlights experience so far. The complexity and beauty of the music was fabulous, the choreography was fantastic, but most of all the other members and their community spirit put this show above the others for Eugene.

Aside from Musical Theatre Eugene also has a passion for circus arts and has performed as a Balloon Artist, Juggler, Stilt Walker, and Fire Spinner.

Eugene wanted to join the committee to help build upon and energise the community/family spirit that Footlights have. To give back to the group that have given so much to him.
